Skin Review - Glam Affair [Lilith]

In March this year Glam Affair released its long-awaited freckled beauty called Leah and the skin conquered the grid in a heartbeat. Leah was youthful, sweet and less high-fashion than all former Glam Affair skins. And while the SL fashion world largely welcomed her with arms wide open there were also a few voices criticizing the heavy realism of the skin such as the visible pores, beauty marks and yes, the freckles.

The wonderful thing about Glam Affair's owner Aida Ewing is that she is one of the few creators who actually involve buyers and bloggers actively in the creation process. Whenever she has a work in progress she posts little teasers on Plurk, asks for feedback on the skin tones and makeups and considers all suggestions in her final decision-making progress to gain a maximum of customer satisfaction.

All this lead to a complete makeover of Leah and so her little sister Lilith was born. Lilith has the body of Glam Affair's last release - Cassiopea. She comes in six skin tones as shown above with blonde, red and dark brows each (each with and without hairbase). And yes, the back features those über-cute bum dimples again.

Leah did not only undergo some body surgery but she also got a facelift to become Lilith. The freckles are now much smaller and less visible, the eyes have been completely overworked as well as the nose. The highlights have been softened and the eyebrows changed completely. That's quite a heavy makeover the poor thing had to go through but it was well worth it.

Lilith comes in 12 beautiful makeup variations. My personal favs are the ones in the second makeup picture cause they really get me in a late summer/early fall mood and the combination of berry colors for the lips and smoky green shades for the eyes are irresistible. As usual, each purchase also includes a clean version of the skin so you can add your own makeup layers. Speaking of which ... there are six glossy lip layers available to complete your look.

Lilith is available in the Glam Affair main store now!

Horror Night 2012 - Part 1

Mid-summer is the time for all those Japanese festivals featuring some established creators as well as new or less known brands with all their quirky and adorable accessories, decor and clothes. One event that shouldn't be missed is the annual Horror Night on the Miniascape sim with its tribute to Japanese horror movies. This year it features stores like NAMINOKE, DownDownDown, Dimbula Rose and, of course, Bare Rose. Use either regional windlight settings or a night windlight setting of your choice to get the full spooky horror experience.

Bare Rose has released a bunch of mesh yukata and kimono for women and men and each purchase includes three different colors with different obi and geta so you can mix and match to your heart's content.

-.HoD.- Coming Soon!

Momma Kawashima said the best birthday gifts are the home-made ones but other than scratchy wool pullovers this gift for my RezDay on 31 July was more than welcome and will soon be available for everyone. Partly mesh and partly sculpted, the -.HoD.- Eidos Set consisting of a piercing with ear gauge and tattoo layer will be the perfect addition to the Provocation Set released for last Horror Haute.

Hair: booN
Hairbase: AITUI
Ear Gauge: - .HoD. -  'Eidos' (soon to be released)
Shoulder Pads: House of Fox

Imitation is the highest form of flattery

On January 6th, 2012 Haus of Darcy aka -.HoD.- released a set of ear gauges called 'Dragon Spiral Earrings'. Following the release of the 'Lisbeth' piercing and makeup set in December, this was Haus of Darcy's second tribute to the book and movie about 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. And as any other product made by SL's most innovative piercing store, these gauges became a major success.

The problem with success is that it causes envy. And greed. And it didn't take long - until February 29th to be precise - until someone went the cheap way and simply copied this idea. Lacking the skills to actually create items from scratch - unlike Haus of Darcy which used the good old combination of craftsmanship, time and skills - the nano mesh maker [ O P E R A ] was asked to prepare a set of piercings and gauges which were then put together, linked with a root prim and decorated with a texture that wasn't (yes, you might be surprised to read this) self-made either but ripped off of older -.HoD.- piercings. And a new product was born.

Below you see a texture comparison with Haus of Darcy's textures on the left and right (watermarked for publishing purposes) and the nicely put together copy in the middle.

The texture stealing is nothing new. Haus of Darcy created the texture for the 'slide' metal color in March 2010 as you can see here (unedited but watermarked in-world screenshot):

The 'creator' purchased some -.HoD.- piercings and even blogged them as her flickr shows in February 2011. That must have been the time when she had the glorious idea that this texture might come in handy for her future venture as an SL entrepreneur cause in July 2011 she released 'her' piercing set as a hunt item with exactly the same texture as you can see below:

All this would have probably gone unnoticed if the 'creator' of the blatant copy hadn't posted a dramatic outcry about 'her' piercings getting copybotted. Two wrongs don't make one right. Copybotting is a plague having a seriously negative impact on SL's economy and should by no means be tolerated or sanctioned but the next time you present yourself as the victim you might want to make sure your own criminal record is free of charges.

You trace the answer with your fingers

A new round of The Mens Dept is starting on 6th August and I don't care what else it will bring (though it will, no doubt, be good) cause I already found the winner - the new mesh yukata made by [Sheep Door]. While the girls already got a good dosis of kimono and yukata in mesh made by *Sweetaholic, we guys still had to fight with obi sticking in our chests or diseappearing completely as soon as we attached our katana. Problem solved, especially as the yukata comes in three different styles complete with zouri. ありがとうございます [Sheep Door]。
